Dr. Matthew Mian
I am a neurosurgeon in Denver, Colorado, with CarePoint Neurosurgery, and I serve as the director of functional neurosurgery at Swedish Medical Center.
I grew up in Michigan and North Carolina. I studied at Duke University and then earned my MD with honors from a joint program between Harvard Medical School and MIT. While in Boston, I developed an interest in cognitive neuroscience, and my research was published in leading journals including Nature and The Journal of Neuroscience.
I completed my residency in neurosurgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and then a fellowship in stereotactic and functional neurosurgery at Emory University.
I have practiced in Colorado since 2019. I take an active role in patient advocacy; I am a member of the Parkinson’s Association of the Rockies Medical Advisory Board, the Epilepsy Foundation of Colorado’s Professional Advisory Board, and the Facial Pain Association.
In my free time, I enjoy cycling, scuba diving, skiing (awkwardly), photography, and hiking.
My care philosophy
My patient care philosophy revolves around clear, direct, and honest discussions about your diagnosis, treatment options, and the advantages and disadvantages of those options. I have no interest in “selling” you on a particular surgery; my life is easiest when I have well-informed, satisfied patients who are able to make the right decisions in their care for the right reasons.
A new diagnosis and a visit to a neurosurgeon can be an intimidating experience. I see my role in the office as providing an easy-to-understand, balanced, and expert opinion and then letting you and your loved ones make a decision - often at home, after the visit. In the operating room, my commitment is to provide you safe, meticulous, and technically excellent surgical care.
